At the Appointed Time

"At the Appointed Time"#2

December 17, 2017

Pastor Roger Redmond

Galatians 4:4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman,  made under the law —

"made under the law — “made to be under the law.” Not merely as Grotius and Alford explain, “Born subject to the law as a Jew.” But “made” by His Father’s appointment, and His own free will, “subject to the law,” to keep it all, ceremonial and moral, perfectly for us, as the Representative Man, and to suffer and exhaust the full penalty of our whole race’s violation of it. This constitutes the significance of His circumcision, His being presented in the temple (Luk_2:21, Luk_2:22, Luk_2:27; compare Mat_5:17), and His baptism by John, when He said (Mat_3:15), “Thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness.” Copied from Barnes on e sword

"Fulness of the time" = At the appointed time = At God's appointed time and only God could make this happen.   There is no question  the Bible is a Supernatural Book and as far as I can tell , this is the only reference made to the Bethlehem Story by the Apostle Paul.

Only God could have made this happen at the appointed time.  It was first mention in  Gen 3:15  And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

You notice He said "her seed" and in Gal. 4:4 He said "made of a woman"  Reference the Virginal conception - God by - passed man.   Also keep in mind that the nation of Israel is referred to as woman, Rev 12:1  And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars: Rev 12:2  And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered. The woman represents Israel through whom God gave Christ to the World.

Paul is not minimizing the Birth of Christ but focusing on why He came into our world.  The birth of Christ is the incarnation of God = God took  the form of man.  Keep in mind that satan, the devil, hates .  Christ.  Therefore, satan persecute the seed of woman and he will persecute the Nation of Israel through whom we have Christ (Mary was  Jew) and they gave us the Word of God.

Why Did He Do This?  To die on the cross for us.  The gospel is the death burial and resurrection of Christ.  That is why He became  man: to be the Lamb of God taken from among men.

You see the world is willing to recognize Christ and to esteem, regard, Him, in fact hold in high regard,  to His Birth and death as a good thing.  And at the same time never understand that it is a personal thing:  It is my sin that He suffered and bled and died for,  which is the reason He came into the world.  Just look around at this Christmas Season:  It is His birth and not the reason for His birth that is so pressed on us.  But the message of the cross is the reason for His birth!  If His Birth is all you understand you will not make it to heaven.  You must be born from above:  That is the message of Christmas.

You must be sure you and your family understands the Gospel.  You can read to them "Twas the night before Christmas" and you can sing to them "Here Comes Santa Clause" but be sure you tell them about the Birth of Christ, the Incarnation of God, and the His road to the Cross.  Yes, tell them about the death, burial and resurrection of Christ, 1 Cor. 15:1-4.

The World has willfully chosen to remain without Spiritual Understanding

2 Peter 3:1-7, i.e. verses 5-7  For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: 2Pe 3:6  Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:  2Pe 3:7  But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

Man always blames God!  Always saying God is unfair or unjust.

But the Word of God says that man is willingly in unbelief.   Even from the beginning man chose to ignore the Words of God.  From creation to the call of Abraham, God dealt with the world and the world rejected Him.  From Abraham to Christ He dealt with the Nation of Israel and they rejected Him.  From Christ to the Rapture He has dealt with the World in grace, The Church Age and man still rejects Him.  It is not the LORD it is the unbelief of man.

You choose to ignore the Word of God.  God came to us, Mat 1:23  Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

Jesus  preexisted before His incarnation, Joh 17:5  And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.

He entered our world to manifest the Eternal Purpose of God and to make know the mystery of His Grace , 1Jn 1:2 (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;) (Eph 3:11)  According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord: (Eph 3:9)  And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:

By coming to us He brought salvation that was known only within The God Head: God The Father, God The Son and God The Holy Spirit: Tit 1:2  In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began; Think about what this verse is saying:

  1. 1. He promised that which only He knew.
  1. 2. He made a promise when there was no one present to whom the promise could be made.

  1. 3. He promised this Salvation before a sin had been commited. 2Ti 1:9  Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,
  1. 4. Thus showing that Salvation is all about His Provision for us.  Before you were born, He promised you Eternal Life:  1Jn 2:25  And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life.

In coming, He fulfilled the promise made before the world began.  He had to be lifted up, Joh 3:14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:  Jesus is telling by what death He should die,. Jesus no doubt is referring to Numbers 21:4-9. (the serpent on pole). When bitten by the fiery serpents, because of their words spoken against God and Moses;  The children of Israel had to look at a bronzed serpent lifted up on a pole to keep from dying physically.

Jesus does not here exactly equate faith with a look but if the one bitten believed God and beheld (looked at) the serpent on the pole they lived physically.  When Jesus was lifted up on the cross, He became our sin bearer; He died in our place. Joh 12:32  And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me . Joh 12:33  This he said, signifying what death he should die. Christ Jesus died on the Cross for you, He was Buried for you, He was Resurrected for you.  That is the Gospel declared unto us, 1 Cor. 15: 1-3 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 1Co 15:2  By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 1Co 15:3  For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 1Co 15:4  And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: When you believe the Gospel you have Eternal Life. Believing the Gospel is believing God.

Rom 6:23  For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

The Birth of Christ is the Incarnation of God

The Birth of Christ is the incarnation of God. Theophanies are no longer need because in the Incarnation Christ stepped out from the invisible God Head and became the visible image of the invisible God.

He is the exact image of God

Heb. 1:3, Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

Col. 1:15  " Who (Christ) is the image of the invisible God,"

" Who (Christ) bare our sins in His own body.." 1 Peter 1:24

Who God Resurrected from the dead, Romans 1:4

And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:

Christ is Deity.  He is the image of the invisible God Head as seen in the diagram above.

Col.1:15 " Who is the image of the invisible God," Therefore your Saviour is very God Himself.  You should understand that if God Himself saved you at the Cross then you Indeed have Eternal life.
