"The Unsearchable Riches of Christ"

Message #2

Ephesians 4: 1-7

November 5, 2017

Pastor Roger Redmond

When studying the Word of God, you stay in context.  If reading the Bible randomly, you don't always keep in context.  So the challenge is to study the Bible.  You notice Ephesians 4:1 and 3:1 have similar language "...the prisoner of Jesus Christ" = "...the prisoner of the Lord..."

So let us put it in context

If you get two different prescriptions for two different health issues, you don't mix the medicines and write your own instructions (Or at least you don't if you have any judgment).  You follow the direction of the doctor.  In the same manner you are to rightly divide the Word of God - put in context.

Ephesians 3:1 indicates there is a cause or reason for him being a prisoner.   And that is laid out in Chapter two.

A.  That cause is this dispensation of Grace.  He mentions this in Eph 3:2 if ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward: What is a dispensation?  It is a period of time during which God deals with the Human Race in a particular way. This time in which we are living is the Age of Grace=the Church Age=the Body of Christ

B.  Ephesians Chapter two establishes this age of grace.  Can't read the entire chapter; let me take heart of the chapter: Ephesians 2:8-16.  Israel was to evangelize the world but they failed - they rejected their Son of God, John 1:11. Therefore, He establishes the Church.  The Church was born, as it was in the heart of God before the foundation of the world but is brought forth after the resurrection of Christ.  Today, there is just one group of people and we are to evangelize the World.  This one people are His body made up of Jew and gentile.

C.  For that cause Paul was a Prisoner of the LORD to preach the unsearchable riches of Christ, Ephesians 3:8-11. What cause?  The mystery of Christ had been revealed, Col. 1:21-27. Rom 16:25  Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began, Rom 16:26  But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:

The Gospel is God power to establish you, Romans 16:25-26

1. The Gospel has the Power to bring salvation in you."Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ. Not his “personal” preaching; It is not any ones personal preaching but according to that preaching of which Christ is the author.  It is the preaching of the gospel that God has ordained.  Paul preached the revelation of Christ that God had given him.  Gal_1:12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ. What is this gospel that Paul preached?  It is the message God gave Paul,  "....., according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began, Rom 16:26  But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:

A.  No one has the right to alter, change in any way, the Gospel message because it is authored by God, Heb 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

What did Christ accomplish, Hebrews 1:3, Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

B.  The Message of the Gospel is about Christ. It is about His death, burial and resurrection.  It is not about anyone else, or anything else.  Here is this Gospel, 1Co 15:1  Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 1Co 15:2  By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 1Co 15:3  For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;  1Co 15:4  And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day

according to the scriptures:

C.  There is those who will alter the Gospel; it is your responsibility to know the truth.

Php_3:2 Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the concision. "Concision" those who said you must be physically circumcised to be saved.  Col_2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

The devil wants to blind you to the truth of Christ 2Co 4:3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:  2Co 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

2.  The message of Christ has the power to establish you in a worthy life, Ephesians 4:1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, He has called us, invited us to Believe on Him for Eternal Life and then to walk in Him, Col_2:6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:

1Pe_2:9  But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

The vocation to which you are called is the free invitation from the LORD to "...shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

The is a way to live - it is a biblical way, Ephesians 4:2-3

There are not two groups of saved people. Just one body, Ephesians 4:4-6.

3.  You have a purpose in life and you have grace to accomplish that purpose, Ephesians 4:7

A.   Your first purpose is to be saved, 2 Timothy 1:9, Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,

B.  Your second purpose is to walk worthy of Christ.
