Know God's Word

"Know God's Word"

Hosea 1:8-11

October 10.15.2017

Pastor Roger Redmond

Message number three (3) from the Book of Hosea. It is important that we set the condition of Israel for the Book of Hosea.  And it is a book of prophecy that is being full filled now and has yet future judgment and restoration.

Why is Israel important to God

There is always a parallel to the Church.

The Book of Hosea deals with the purpose of Israel, Isa 54:5 For thy Maker is thine husband; the LORD of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called.

God speaks to Israel by Hosea

Hosea is a man God used to show Israel their sin of Spiritual Adultery.  Israel is now the dishonest wife of Jehovah.  So Hosea was told to go take a wife of whoredoms and children of whoredoms.

How did God speak to Israel by Hosea?

Hosea did not go to the house of prostitution and get a wife.  The ten tribes of Israel (Northern Kingdom) had gone into idol worship. He was to go get a wife that was practicing spiritual adultery.  She was a fit symbol for Israel who laspsed into spiritual whoredom after their contract on Sinai.  Exo 20:1  And God spake all these words, saying, Exo 20:2  I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Exo 20:3  Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Exo 20:4  Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Exo 20:5  Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me. This took place in a matter of days after He deliver them out of Egypt.

He judged them because of their sin, 1:8-9 But keep in mind they are His people, and even though God scatters them into ever nation of the world, He will gather them back.

1:10-11. He always honors His Word.  He is faithful to keep all the promises made. Genesis 13:15-17 For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever.  And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered.  Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for I will give it unto thee.

He took them out and scattered them into every nation in the world but yet He has brought them back and is bring them back.  This has happened before our eyes and it is happening now but yet it goes unnoticed by most people.

The certainty of God's Word

He said I will Judge you, Hosea 1:8-9.  Why did He judge Israel?  Because they brought in to them other gods, which are not another.  How could this have happened because they watered down the Word of God.  They did not hold His Word in high esteem.  They knew exactly what God said but it did not impact their life, Jer. 44: 2 -6; 44:15-19. (The Old Testament is full of rebellion to Him)

Do you see a parallel with America and the Church today?  The Word of God is not held in high esteem today.  It is as though we don't care what God says.  The Church just does not view the Word of God worthy of our time to study it. You are familiar with 2 Tim. 2:15 but I want to use one we don't think about. Mat 16:3  And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowring. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?

Illustration: Margie expecting our children. The doctors set a time but the time came and went because no one knew the time. But each day we knew the time was getting closer, because we saw the signs.  If you are in the Word of God you know it time to be ready to meet the LORD.

He said I will scatter you into every nation on the earth.  He did and they became a no people, Duet. 30:1  And it shall come to pass, when all these things are come upon thee, the blessing and the curse, which I have set before thee, and thou shalt call them to mind among all the nations, whither the LORD thy God hath driven thee, By 1970 there was not a nation on earth that did not have a Jewish community.  They had been scattered to every nation on earth.

He said I will gather you back and make one nation, But look at Duet. 30:2-3  And shalt return unto the LORD thy God, and shalt obey his voice according to all that I command thee this day, thou and thy children, with all thine heart, and with all thy soul; Deu 30:3  That then the LORD thy God will turn thy captivity, and have compassion upon thee, and will return and gather thee from all the nations, whither the LORD thy God hath scattered thee.

This was written hundreds of years ago maybe 3,500 or more and we see it being full filled before our eyes.  But most people don't know that.  In the early Nineties the Soviet Union fell apart and millions of Jews were free to come home to Israel.  And Jews are still coming home from nations.  Who did that? The LORD!

What does that have to do with the Church; what does that have to do with us?

Before Jehovah gather them back as one nation and Christ comes as King in the Kingdom Age, He will come for the Church, the saved, the Rapture of the church.

Israel is the wife of Jehovah and the Church, His body is the Bride/wife of Christ, Revelation 21:9 And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb's wife.

Israel made idols and worshipped them. for example consider Aaron and the people as Moses was on Mt Sinai: they made a golden calf.  We don't bow to a wooden idol and a golden statue.  But we worship materialism. If we have plenty of money most people have no need of the LORD.  Materialism replaces Him, 1 Tim. 6:5-10.

When Israel went in the Promised Land, they had to face fortified cities like Jericho.  We don't fight a literal walled up city but we face fortified cities of the heart. The places of our mind that we have not made subject to the Word of God.  That stubbornness cost you every day the blessing of God.

{Illustration about tithing:  Have you ever noticed that people who tithe give different experiences of how God blessed them. It is different details but the same truth: God is Faithful to His Word.  But people who don't tithe have the very same testimony?  They all say, "I can't afford to tithe."  That is true you can't until you tithe.}

2 Tim. 3:1-5,7-8  That is the idols we face  today.  You cannot allow any to exist in your mind, 2 Cor. 10:4-5  (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

Why is the Word of God so important?

The LORD is very particular about His Word; He put it above His name, Psalm 138:1-2 . A Psalm of David. I will praise thee with my whole heart: before the gods will I sing praise unto thee.  I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name. He gave His Word to us.  Without His Word there is no way for people to be forgiven.  When a person or church or group pervert the Word of God they have taken away any hope for Eternal Life.  That was the end result of the sin of Solomon.  He took away the LORD out of their life by bringing in idols. 1 Kings 11:1-3; 9-11
