"Hearing the LORD"

Revelation 12:1-17

April 9,2017

Joh 5:24  Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

Pastor/ Teacher Roger Redmond

What you believe is related directly to what you hear.  Your opinions, convictions can be tilted, off the center, if what you hear is not factual or true.  That is why you are flooded with all types of adds, advertisements, etc.  What you see and hear affects you.   In these examples you never know how much is true or if there is any truth contained in their message.

In the Bible you have truth, Rom_10:17  So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. 1Co 1:18  For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

The bible deals with the temporal as well as the eternal,2 Cor. 4:18. Therefore it is evident we need to hear the Word of God, we need to hear Him!

You have opposition to hearing the LORD - Your enemy knows the Word of God is true Jas_2:19  Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

First, you have an enemy and he wants to annihilate you and that enemy is satan;  he is the master of deception.  Second, This deception is about  him altering your perception of God and twisting the Word of God and creating a false narrative in your mind.  A false narrative of hopelessness (he lies and the father of lies Joh_8:44  Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.) "...he speaketh of his own"  satan is speaking of his way - he wants to hide the true goodness of the Lord from you.  Do not debate with him (satan) any issue of life but go to the Word of God. (satan wants you to follow his way).  Third, Know that he is a defeated foe and you can't fight him in your strength. Christ won the victory for you,  which is the Gospel of Christ who ever lives that we preach.  Your victory is in Him, Joh 16:33  These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. If He has overcome the world for me then, I need to learn how to access that victory !

Satan does not want you to know the peace and victory you can have in Christ.   Col_2:6  As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:

satan's role now:

A.   Walking  about seeking to devour us 1 Peter 2:8-9 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:  Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

B.   Accusing  the saved to the LORD:

"It is, as it has always been, one of the characteristics of Satan - one of the means by which he keeps up his influence in the world - to bring accusations against the people of God. Thus, under his suggestions, and by his agents, they are charged with hypocrisy; with insincerity; with being influenced by bad motives; with pursuing sinister designs under the cloak of religion; with secret vices and crimes. Thus it was that the martyrs were accused; thus it is that unfounded accusations are often brought against ministers of the gospel, palsying their power and diminishing their influence, or that when a professed Christian falls the church is made to suffer by an effort to cast suspicion on all who bear the Christian name. Perhaps the most skillful thing that Satan does, and the thing by which he most contributes to diminish the influence of the church, is in thus causing “accusations” to be brought against the people of God." copied  from Barnes on e sword. 1 Chron. 21:1 Job 1:6ff. Revelation 12:9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

"Devil — the Greek, for “accuser,” or “slanderer.”

Satan — the Hebrew for “adversary,” especially in a court of justice. The twofold designation, Greek and Hebrew, marks the twofold objects of his accusations and temptations, the elect Gentiles and the elect Jews." from JFB on e sword

If you  engages that conversation of the accuser or slanderer your tongue is that of the devil. The Bible warns us about our words.  Pro 18:20  A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled. Pro 18:21  Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

C.  Seeks to hinder the work of our LORD, 2Co_2:11  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

D.  Deceiving people, Rev 20:3  And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.

How to overcome satan

Rev 12:11  And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

The Blood of the Lamb would encompass all the Work of the Cross.  He shed His Blood in His death on the Cross and all the suffering that led up to the cross.  The LORD wants you to hear His Word,  John 5:24  "he that heareth my word"- means to hear the truth that is being conveyed.  I think people go thru life and never hear the LORD.  If you go to John 4, the Samaritan woman's story, look and see how much the LORD had to  tear away from her belief system before she could hear the LORD.

"...by the blood of the Lamb,..." That is the same path to victory we have today, Joh 12:32  And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.  Joh 12:33  This he said, signifying what death he should die.

"......they loved not their life unto death.  Luk 14:26  If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. "Hate": means to love less.  Would you disobey Christ at the request of family or would you continue with Christ?

"Discipleship means giving one’s first loyalty. There is no place in Jesus’ teaching for literal hatred. He commanded his followers to love even their enemies (6:27), so it is impossible to hold that he is here telling them literally to hate their earthly nearest (cf. 8:20f.). "Morris, L. (1988). Luke: an introduction and commentary (Vol. 3, p. 253). Downers Grove, IL: InterVarsity Press. To be the person you should be, that you want to be, Christ must have the proper place in your life.  In other words your loyalty must come to Christ first.  We are made in the image of God, therefore, we must have our needs met in Him in order to function correctly in our life.  Col 1:18  And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. The place of most influence in your life.

"...by the word of their testimony..." Means the evidence that came from their mouth, words.  All pointed to Christ.

Romans 10: 8-10. You  confess with your mouth what you believe in your heart.  Now you can lie to the LORD and to yourself and mouthed what you don't know in your heart.  Remember Jesus said, do not be as the scribes and Pharisees, Mat_23:3  All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not. You can say one thing and be something else

Martha in John 11: 25 is a good example:  Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:  Joh 11:26  And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?  Joh 11:27  She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world. She spoke with her mouth what was believed in the heart.

You must know/believe the Gospel

What does the gospel say?  Col. 1:5.  For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel;  Ephesians 1: 12 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.

Eph 1:13  In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

Truth comes to us  in the words of men .   For example some historians brings to us the truth of history.  Although, that could be skewed;  you would not know for sure if all the facts are included .  A witness under oath is to tell the truth in a court of law.  but we know that is not always  the case.   In the many words of man, you find some truth. But  God's Word is all truth, it is  the Word of Truth.   All that is needed was included in the finished work of Christ, Titus 1:2, In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;.

"The word of the truth of the Gospel. The truth is the contents of the word, and the Gospel defines the character of the truth" Vincent, M. R. (1887). Word studies in the New Testament (Vol. 3, p. 464). New York: Charles Scribner’s Sons.

The Gospel is the truth that comes from God.

Col_1:6  Which is come unto you, as it is in all the world; and bringeth forth fruit, as it doth also in you, since the day ye heard of it, and knew the grace of God in truth:

Your debt of sin was paid for by Christ, 1Pe_2:24  Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. God took all the sin of the world and put on His Son and judged Him for our sin, Isaiah 53:4-7; 10-12.  2 Cor. 5:18-21.

The payment for your sin, for all sin has been made by The Son of God.   1Jn 5:11-13  And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.  He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. The payment for your sin has already been made (by Christ) and accepted by God The Father.

You can experience the forgiveness of your sins when you believe that He did it for you.  Jesus said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life. John 6:47
