Romans 11:1-12

The ways and wisdom of God are unsearchable; they are past our finding out, Rom 11:33  O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!  Rom 11:34  For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor?

God has always looked for a people to know Him, honour Him, believe Him and follow Him.  That is His desire in the call of Abraham.  But there is more here, than just the forming of the Jewish nation; Gen 12:2  And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:Deu_14:2  For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God, and the LORD hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto himself, above all the nations that are upon the earth. In the wisdom of God, that call to Abraham spans centuries and comes down to include us in the church age. Abraham is the Father of all who believe, Rom_4:16  Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,

Salvation by Faith has always been preached

Gal_3:8  And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.  Rom 4:13  For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith. Believing God through His Word is counted for righteousness.  It was with Abraham, Romans 4:21-22 And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.  And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness. It is with us today, Romans 4:23 - 25 Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him; But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead;  Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.

It was Christ that Moses trusted, Heb 11:26  Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward.

Salvation has always been to the individual by Grace

Israel missed Christ coming as their Saviour because they received not His word. Rom 10:21  But to Israel he saith, All day long I have stretched forth my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people. It was through their unbelief they were broken off as a nation.  But even in that, there is the remnant of grace, Rom 11:5  Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace. And they are not cast away.  After the church is taken out and the tribulation comes to an end all Israel will be saved but even then it will be the individual who believes.  Nations are made up of people; nations are saved by the people being saved.

Both Jew and Gentile are one in the Church

Eph 2:14  For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; Eph 2:16  And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:

Definition of enmity: From Webster's 1828 Dictionary Enmity EN'MITY, noun

1. The quality of being an enemy; the opposite of friendship; ill will; hatred; unfriendly dispositions; malevolence. It expresses more than aversion and less than malice, and differs from displeasure in denoting a fixed or rooted hatred, whereas displeasure is more transient. I will put enmity between thee and the woman. Genesis 3:15.The carnal mind is enmity against God.Romans 8:7. 2. A state of opposition. The friendship of the world is enmity with God. James 4:4.

What is slain is the enmity between Jew and Gentile and the enmity between the sinner and God. Enmity is the wickedness of our own heart.  God has offered to you reconciliation in the cross.  In short, you have been reconciled to, 2Co 5:20  Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God. Because of the cross, 2Co 5:19  To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; ...." you are urged to come near to God.  The only obstacle would be on your part and that being unbelief.  Everything else has been taken out of the way and nailed to His Cross.  Col 2:14  Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

Salvation is by Grace through faith but people seek it by works

Rom 11:6  And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise, work is no more work.

Many people will miss salvation because they seek it by works and not by Grace.  It is by faith that it might be by grace, Romans 4:16 Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; That is why the nation of Israel missed the Gospel, Romans 11:7-8 What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded   (According as it is written, God hath given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear;) unto this day. The election being those who believed.

Paul said, " I am a Jew and I am saved " I believed, Romans 11:1  I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. The Jews had the scriptures but they heard not what the scriptures said.  They held the Scriptures in high esteem but refused to come to Christ. The nation of Israel assumed and presumed that because of all these advantageous they were righteous, Rom 3:1  What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision? Rom 3:2  Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God. But yet they did not seek the LORD by faith,

Romans 10: 1-4 Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.

Have you submitted yourself to the righteousness of God? 2Co 5:21  For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Romans 10:9-10  is the answer to man's dilemma about salvation by grace through faith: That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

The Church (the believer)is to be a peculiar people

Tit_2:14  Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. 1Pe 2:9  But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

The one who believes on Him is a special treasure unto Him.  The word peculiar means: a people for God's own possession.  It is hard to capture the Bible sense of this word "peculiar".  There is a meaning captured in these words, of description, concerning the one who believes on Him as their Saviour that you should think upon.  "...a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:"

"They are a people which he has secured as a possession, or as his own; a people, therefore, which belong to him, and to no other. In this sense they are special as being His; and, being such, it may be inferred that they should be special in the sense of being unlike others (unique) in their manner of life. But that idea is not necessarily in the text. There seems to be here also an allusion to Exo_19:5; “Ye shall be a peculiar treasure with me (Septuagint λαὸς περιούσιος  laos periousios) above all people.” From Barnes off e-sword. notes on 1 Peter 2:9

Not only are we a treasure unto Him but we have Him as a treasure in our own bodies, 2Co 4:7  But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.

In exchange for our faith in Him as our Saviour, at the moment of believing on Him,  we are indwelt by the Holy Spirit and sealed by Him, Eph1:12-14That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,  Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

Scripture Reading  Proverbs 1:1-8

Proverbs 1:8 My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

The father gives instruction but it is the mother who lays down the law.  The mother wants the instruction of the father to be taken to heart.  But there are no guarantees that the instructions are received or the heart of the mother is heard.  It is what we want for our children but we cannot guarantee their success.  Life happens, hearts are broken, lives are changed to never be the same again.  Too often we forget, the world, in which we are living, is a sinful world, a fallen world.  There is none righteous.  Righteousness cannot be achieved apart from humbling yourself under the mighty hand of God.

Psalm 144:12 That our sons may be as plants grown up in their youth; that our daughters may be as corner stones, polished after the similitude of a palace: It is only in the LORD that such a change can be effected in our families. It comes not by will power, nor by a life of perfection, or by being good or by any works of our righteousness,  but comes in the Grace of God extended to us in Christ.  We are given the opportunity to believe the Word of God.

Our circumstances cannot separate us from God...

" where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:"

I read a book several years ago and just recently read the epilog section.    "When I lay my Isaac down" It is a true story about a family whose only son made a terrible decision and then the life changing events of all the family.  The book is written by the mother, Carol Kent.  It is about letting go of control, in trying to manage the outcome of our circumstances, when life happens.  The son was a graduate of the Naval Academy an officer in the Navy with a bright future, married with two step - daughters and then the unthinkable happens.  It is a book worth the time to read.  Just before their world fell apart they said, "Can life get any better than this."  It has been more than a decade since the phone call that changed their life forever.  They had to lay their Isaac down and walk in a path they feared to tread and found Christ true to His Word, Rom 8:31  What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? Rom 8:35  Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? Rom 8:38  For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,  Rom 8:39  Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Circumstances alter our plans and change us forever; they appear to ruin our lives and destroy God's plans, but God's Hand is not short nor is it feeble in reaching us among the ruins".  God is never closer than when He is needed most.  "Just When I need Him Most"   (One of my favorite hymns.)

We can't change life; we can only lay our burden down at the feet of Christ.  Burdens are lifted by the Crucified Christ.  Life is not about Him changing our circumstances;  it is about us believing Him, in our life, regardless of our circumstances.

You are never beyond the heart of God

1Pe 5:7  Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

If Jonah could find the LORD, from the belly of a whale, you can reach Him from your arena of life.  And if the LORD could deliver Jonah, from the belly of hell, your cause is not beyond Him, Jon 2:5  The waters compassed me about, even to the soul: the depth closed me round about, the weeds were wrapped about my head. The weeds wrapped about his head: he was hopeless and from his hopelessness, Jonah cried to the LORD. Jon 2:2  And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice.

The biblical instruction of a father and the law of thy mother is for you, to turn to the immutable truths of God's grace, mercy, power.  When life has left you with a bitter taste of heartache, and with no answers as to why then turn to the unchanging Word of God.   It is putting your burden in the hands of God, it is relinquishing your control and trusting your future to God, Who is able.  Eph 3:20  Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,

Unbelief is no little sin

Heb_3:12  Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.

Unbelief leaves you floundering in the prison house of self-righteousness, and pride keeps you locked in that prison of self.  Our willingness to live without knowledge and understanding of God's Word is to be laid aside, "....let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.

Psalm 144:11 Rid me, and deliver me from the hand of strange children, whose mouth speaketh vanity, and their right hand is a right hand of falsehood: Strange Children means those who are against the gospel, the enemies to your soul (life), enemies of God.  They are false teachers who give a false hope.   But God is for you and that is demonstrated in the Gospel.  Rom 8:31  What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? Believe Him, Romans 8:32-37 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth. Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

Homes need Christ

"....for without me ye can do nothing." John 15:5

Psa 144:12  That our sons may be as plants grown up in their youth; that our daughters may be as corner stones, polished after the similitude of a palace:

Plants are alive and give provision - our sons are to grow up knowing the gospel and experiencing the grace of God in their life.  They are to know about Christ and the wages of sin and why Christ died on the cross.  Our sons and daughters should hear they are never beyond the Redeeming Grace of God.

The young man in the book I talked about is serving Christ today, while still in prison.  He is alive in Christ and walking in the Grace of God and speaking out for Christ.  Yes ," where sin abounded grace did much more abound." And the Grace of God is ever real and always abounding.

The cornerstone occupies a prominent place and our daughters are created to be cornerstones of the family not the cornerstone of man's world.  Beauty is defined by the Bible not by a magazine, 1 Peter 3:1-7.  "polished after the similitude of a palace:" Instead of polishing womanhood - womanhood has been trashed.

Our homes and families need to hear and believe the truth of the gospel.  Psa 144:14  That our oxen may be strong to labour; that there be no breaking in, nor going out; that there be no complaining in our streets. Psa 144:15  Happy is that people, that is in such a case: yea, happy is that people, whose God is the LORD. Christ is the only one who can satisfy the longing of the soul.  And it is when you take up your cross and follow Him that you are at peace. 1Ti 6:6  But godliness with contentment is great gain.

Proverbs 8:22

May 7, 2017

Pastor / Teacher Roger Redmond

On this weekend, many graduations exercises were conducted and one was of special interest to me.  My Granddaughter, Haley Winter Redmond, received her under graduated degree from U.T.C as a Latin Honors Candidate.   Congratulations to Haley and to all Graduates.  And best wishes to everyone as they embark on the next chapter of their life.

Life is a School of its own, and each day we are put to the test. At the conclusion of every day, we should receive a passing grade.  Our textbook is the Bible and our study guide is the Holy Spirit.  At the Judgment, we will receive our final grade.  We are exhorted by the Word of God to study diligently, 2Ti 2:15  Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. If you deal with your life daily, by taking up your cross and following Christ, you will have no fear at the Judgment Seat of Christ.

Wisdom demands an Audience

Pro 8:4  Unto you, O men, I call, and my voice is to the sons of man.

In searching to further our education, schools of academic excellences are selected but we find that wisdom and understanding calls all people, Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice?  Proverbs 8:1. And these two subjects are not found in Schools; they are only found in the LORD.  The source of Wisdom and Understanding is Christ, Col 2:3  In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

Regardless of our age, here are three (3) things you must do succeed in the University of life;

1.  Keep learning,  Proverbs 1:5  A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:.

2.  Keep a right mind and a youthful mind, Php 2:5  Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: He had a mind that brought Him into our world to be the Son of Man, our Saviour.

3.  Keep planning for another day. Find something to do for Christ and do it, Col_3:24  Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ. Your planning for the future should extend beyond death.  It should include the judgment for it is there each will receive their final grade,  2Co 5:9 -10 Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

It is the fear of the LORD that will cause you to succeed in the University of Life, Pro 1:7  The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.  Pro 1:23  Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.

Wisdom says hear my words, Proverbs 8:6,7, 8ff Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall be right things. For my mouth shall speak truth; and wickedness is an abomination to my lips. All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing froward or perverse in them.

Wisdom received produces eternal fruit,  Proverbs 8: 9-12.  i.e. 8:12  I wisdom dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty inventions. God's Wisdom should be desired and there is a key to true wisdom ,Pro. 8:12, I wisdom dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty inventions.  "Prudence is wisdom in practice.  The farther wisdom proceeds in man, the more practical knowledge it gainsPro. 1:4  To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion. The truly wise person follows the instruction of God's Word.  You Prepare Daily for the Judgment Seat of Christ.  Each of us lives a lifetime regardless of the length of our days.  Therefore, it is most important to make the most of each day.  Luk_9:23  And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. If we do this we are always prepared.

Creation is by God's wisdom and all of His acts are by design.

Wisdom and Understanding exist with only the LORD, Proverbs 8:22ff.

'Strictly, God’s attributes are part of Himself. Yet, to the poetical structure of the whole passage, this commendation of wisdom is entirely consonant. In order, of time all His attributes are coincident and eternal as Himself. But to set forth the importance of wisdom as devising the products of benevolence and power, it is here assigned a precedence. As it has such in divine, so should it be desired in human, affairs"

Jamieson, R., Fausset, A. R., & Brown, D. (1997). Commentary Critical and Explanatory on the Whole Bible (Vol. 1, p. 393). Oak Harbor, WA: Logos Research Systems, Inc.

Wisdom is not created; its source is God.  Christ is the Creator, John 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. Col 1:15  Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: Col 1:16  For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: Wisdom is like a spectator admiring the handiwork of Christ.

Creation is by God's design and it is done by His wisdom.  In Titus 1:2 and in 2 Tim. 1: 9,  we see the shape of His plan, In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began; Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,

Wisdom is the Person of Christ

Pro 8:14  Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I have strength.

Christ is the wisdom of God's expression in Redemption, Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; Heb. 1:3.   Col 2:3  In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

From Christ you can own the Eternal , He is the counselor - should we not listen to His advice  Rev. 3:18  I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.  1Co 1:24  But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. You can own this counsel,  Isa 55:1  Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.

Isa 55:2  Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness. You own Him by believing Him. He pleads with you to believe the sacrifice He made for all the world.

He said, "I am understanding". He is understanding, and He give understanding.  1Jn 5:20  And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life. Nicodemus did not know whereof he spoke. Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things?John 3:10. Christ is told Nicodemus in John 3: 11 "....We speak that we do know..." He is wisdom and understanding.

He said, "I have strength", Christ is "...the Mighty God...." Isaiah 9:6.  He is able to save to the uttermost,  Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them. Hebrews 7:25.  He is more than able to do all that needs to be done and much more, Eph 3:20  Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,

Pastor Roger Redmond

John 13:1-11

A very interesting and very important lesson taught here in the Word of God.  Pay close attention as we read the scripture, i.e.  verses 8-10 Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me. Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head. Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.

Peter did not understand all of the lessons nor did any of the disciples, Joh 13:7  Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.  It is evident from 1 and 2 Peter that Peter gained understanding and experienced this lesson and it changed his life.  From Peter's answer, I believe he understood the lesson of humility and being a servant to others but not the lesson taught in the washings.

There are two washing presented in these verses::   1.  "He that is washed.." Occurred when you believed on Christ for eternal life.  2.  "...needeth not save to wash his feet..." Represents cleansing from sin after salvation and takes place when you confess your sin to Christ.  Have you been washed( Saved)? Joh 6:47  Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life. Are you keeping your feet clean (your daily life)?

Jesus is teaching a very simple lesson and it is a lesson that we need to hear! Jesus is giving an illustration that sin in the life of a Christian will keep you from having a part with Christ.  Sin breaks the fellowship  - separates you from the power of Christ - renders you useless in completing your assignment for Him.

Eternal Salvation is a one-time transaction["He that is washed"] - Walking with Christ is a daily exercise.[requires daily washing -pictured by washing the feet]

Christ said," If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me..." Peter said, Lord wash me all over,  I want to have a part with you.  He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean,...".    Peter had been washed (saved) but he needed daily washing ( pictured by washing the feet).

1.  "If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me..." Teaches an eternal truth about our life after salvation. Jesus said, "If I don't wash you, you have no part with me".  This does not refer to being saved.  He is telling us(the saved) a truth about life,  as one who is saved.  " ....hast no part with me..." "part" means to share something with Christ.  This is not sharing eternal life with Christ - Eternal Life is the gift of God;  it is about taking that life (the gift) and using it for Him, Rom 12:1  I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

  • · Having a part (allotment - an allotted portion) with Christ is about:  Abiding in Christ, John 15:5   I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
  • · It is about suffering with Him, 2 Tim. 2:12  If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:
  • · It is about being a disciple.  It is being approved by Christ - hearing "well done thou good and faithful servant".
  • · It is about not being ashamed at the judgment seat of Christ, 1 Cor. 3:14-15. If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

Some Christians Live under a False Assumption about their Life

Death does not change your life. Death seals and frames your life .  If you die with un -confessed sin, you have un - confessed at the judgment seat.  Death does not change you from an unfaithful Christian to a faithful Christian, it does not change you from a selfish person to a unselfish person.  death seals your destiny and your standing at the Judgment  Seat of Christ.

Your vision of life should extend to the Judgment, 2Co 5:10  For we must all appear before the judgment-seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. The story is told of the Indian Chief as he came down to death;  when asked if he feared death, he answered:  it is not death I fear, it is the judgment.  It is the day of accountability - that should impact our life.  That is the lesson Christ is teaching to the disciples.

How the LORD views us should be the focus of our life. We like the end of any story to be good, right and for justice to be done.  In the holly wood scripts, the end can be written as the writer chooses.  We are writing the script of our life, by the choices we make.   Col 3:23  And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;  Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ. But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons.

2. "...he that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet but is clean every whit.."Teaches us that being born again,  being saved,(terms that mean the same) is once for all. Heb 1:3  Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; It means He will never rise to redo that finished work.  And when you understand, that He (Christ) through what He did guarantees you Eternal Life; you can rejoice with joy unspeakable because you are anchored in the truth of the gospel.

John 13:10  Jesus saith to him, He that is washed (saved) needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.  The only one not saved in this group is Judas.  See verse 11 For he knew who should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean.

The Word of Christ (He is the Word) pronounces us clean. John 13:10 "...ye are clean..." John 15:3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.  Ephesians 5:26  That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

3. "...thou hast no part with me." Christ is communicating to us that having a part with Him is being close to Him. For Him to cleanse you requires you to be close to Him.  If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: 1 John 1:6-7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

You know most people do not want to know about that closeness. It is the same thing Paul is saying in Phil. 3: 7-10 But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;

Paul said , "I count all things but loss" to have a part with Him.  In others words he is saying I consider them lost.  "Excellency" means super pre-importance.  The knowledge of Christ is super pre-important. "I count all things but loss" on account of the surpassing Excellency of knowing Christ. Knowing and understanding Christ is greater than all other or anything.

Then he said, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things. He not only considered them lost - he actually lost them. Why? That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; - so he could have a part with Christ.

Have you been washed by Christ?  All over, as being forgiven and given a home in heaven, Isa 1:18  Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. You have the right to believe, to rest your case in Christ, for you were included in all that Christ did on the cross.  For believing on Him for eternal life, He guarantees you a home in heaven, Joh 6:47  Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.

Are you keeping your feet clean? As in confessing our sins, the daily cleansing needed as we live in this world.  1Jn 1:9  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

1Jn 1:10  If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
