Eze_22:30  And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none.

Pastor/ Teacher Roger Redmond

2 Timothy 2:15-20

In this message, I want us to get a glimpse into the life of a follower of Christ.  The life of a Christian and the life of a disciple of Christ are not synonymous lives.  Not every person that is saved takes up their cross and follows Christ.  In 2 Timothy 1:6-8, Paul put Timothy in remembrance,  Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands. For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;

Some things for Timothy to remember and we as well

  1. 1. Be not ashamed of the testimony of Christ.
  1. 2. And of others who serve the gospel.
  1. 3. Be a partaker of the afflictions of the Gospel. These afflictions would be whatever is bound to the gospel might bring to you.  In others, words count it all joy to be a partaker with Christ.  There is a promise with this exhortation.  "According to the power of God." You can be sure the LORD knows those who suffer for Him.

The blessing is brought on your home by partaking of the afflictions of the gospel, 1 Timothy 1: 16  The Lord give mercy unto the house of Onesiphorus; for he oft refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain:

Onesiphorus made a choice to be bound to the gospel,  But, when he was in Rome, he sought me out very diligently, and found me.  1:17. He looked for an opportunity to serve the gospel.  It was not just one thing he did, 1:18b "..... and in how many things he ministered unto me at Ephesus, thou knowest very well.

Paul prayed for his reward,  1:18, The Lord grant unto him that he may find mercy of the Lord in that day. "In that day" The day of accountability for the Christian, the JSOC.

Three (3) times in Chapter two (2) he says, "Therefore". 2Ti 2:1  Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2Ti 2:3  Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.2Ti 2:21  If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.

The LORD knoweth them that are His

2Ti 2:19  Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

The Church is the foundation of God (Not the foundation of a building but that which God founded) and the Church is standing sure, 1Ti 3:15  But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

Four reasons to show it is a sure foundation

Because the Church is the Body of Christ.  Many verses of scripture confirm this but I am going to use one reference,  Ephesians 5: 25-32, i.e. Eph 5:32  This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.

Because of His promised return for His Body1 Thess. 4:13-18. Joh 14:3  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

Because we are the Bride of Christ, Rev. 21:9 And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb's wife. The Bride becomes the wife at the Marriage Supper of the Lamb.  We are the wife of Christ in eternity and Israel is the wife of Jehovah.

Because we have His seal"....Having this seal..." Seal shows ownership - means it is genuineness.  But this seal is you are known by the LORD or owned by the LORD, "...having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his...." So everywhere you go, you belong to the Lord. There is no place you can go that is beyond the security of being His Child.

"Architects always put their mark on a monument, or a statue, or a building, to show that they were responsible for its design. The sphragis can also be the inscription which indicates the purpose for which a building has been built."Barclay, W. (2003). The Letters to Timothy, Titus, and Philemon (3rd ed. fully rev. and updated, p. 198). Louisville, KY; London: Westminster John Knox Press.

This inscription is not a writing that others can see; He wrote His presence in your spirit and your soul by the Holy Spirit.  His seal is He knows you: "...having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his...."

Faith in God touches Him! When you believe God's Word when you believe His record about His Son, Christ; faith is counted to you for righteousness. Rom 4:21  And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform. Rom 4:22  And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness. What was imputed for righteousness?  Faith!  Rom 4:24  But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; Rom 4:25  Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.

God responds to you when you believe on Him: you have His seal, "... The Lord knoweth them that are his...." He knows if you trust Him.  Do you believe that God has saved you in Christ?   Have you forsaken all other and believing wholly on Him for eternal life?

Salvation is a finished work done for you by the LORD, then why not believe it?  If salvation is by grace through faith, then why not let it be the gift of God to you through faith?  Why do we think there is a need to add to God's plan?  Rom_4:16  Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; ...." Are you willing to believe God in spite of all? 1Jn 5:11  And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Are you willing to believe that God has given you His Son? 1Jn 5:12  He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

If we name the name of Christ, we are to depart from iniquity, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

We are to keep our self from polluting influences.  You are charged with the responsibility to turn away from those who are vessels of dishonor.  He is talking about people who do not hold to the integrity of God's Word.  Those who call evil good - That belittle the wages of sin - that say it matters not about your life.  Don't allow anyone to take you away from the simplicity which is in Christ, If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.

Will you hear the plea from the LORD?

Around us, in this world, there are gaps and they need to be filled.  Filled with the message of Christ, filled with people who will hear the call of God, filled with people who are moved by the need of others, filled with someone who will take up their cross and follow Christ.

There are gaps in the home, there are gaps in the church, there are gaps in our communities, there are gaps in your circle of life, there are gaps in our government, there are gaps in the fields that are white already to harvest, there are gaps at NRBBC.  Why?  Because no one was willing to stand in the gap!  We are reaping the results of living lukewarm lives.

The gap can only be bridged by His body, the Church.   By you as a member of that body saying to Him: I will stand in the gap; I will represent you.  2Co 5:20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God

The key to filling the gap is in the Word of God, 2 Timothy2: 3-4 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.  No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.

No greater work could one do for their Saviour than to understand you are saved to be a Soldier.

Are you willing to stand in the gap for Christ who died for you that the World for whom He died might hear the same as you?

Revelation 21:1-10

Pastor/Teacher Roger Redmond

Heaven is a place prepared for a prepared people.  Heaven is not a place where good people go. For the Bible says, There is none righteous,  Rom 3:10  As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: and it says, there is none that doeth good, Rom 3:12  They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. Heaven is where saved people spend eternity.  Heaven is where the saved will spend eternity with the Saviour.   Heaven is where saved people go.

So often we hear heaven expressed as a place gained by being good.  Often children are told be good so you can go to heaven. But that is not the truth.  Every parent wants their children to know the truth. That truth is found in the Bible.  2Ti_3:15  And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

When Nicodemus came to Jesus, he was seeking the answer to the question, how can I go to heaven.  All people, in their heart of hearts, are seeking the answer to that same question: Where will I spend eternity? How can I go to heaven? How can I know I will spend eternity in Heaven?  Of course, Jesus answered NicodemusJohn 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Jesus answered all of his questions, Joh 3:9  Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be? Joh 3:11  Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness.

It is the Word of God that makes one wise unto Salvation

Jesus told Nicodemus to leave his religious ideas and teaching and receive the Word of God. He plainly told him that his teaching was empty and offered no answer, Joh 3:10  "......Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things? The Word of God is where faith is found, where truth is found.  It is the Firm Foundation. 1Jn 5:9  If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son.  1Jn 5:10  He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.

Jesus told Nicodemus how to be born againJohn 3:14-18.  i. e. 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. You are born again by the Spirit of God when you believe the Gospel of Christ.  To believe on Christ is to believe the Gospel of Christ, John 11: 25-27 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: Joh 11:26  And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this? Joh 11:27  She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world.

Christ is your Saviour, that God sent into the world.  That is the record of God's Word, the testimony of God.   The Word of God can make you wise unto salvation through faith in Christ.  1Pe 1:23  Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

What John saw in Revelation is characterized as a place prepared for a  people,

Rev. 21:1-2. And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.  And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

This is the place Jesus promised in John 14:2-3, In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. What a beautiful promise, I will receive you unto myself... where I am you will be also.  This word "prepared" in Revelation 21:2 is the same as John 14:23 and Hebrews 11:16, But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city. And in 1 Cor. 2:9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. This place prepared corresponds to the Holy City in Rev. 21:1-2.

The word "mansions" in John14:2 is only used one other timeJohn 14:23  Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. "Abode "Same word as "mansions". In other words, He is saying we will be at home together. Revelation 21:3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.

What John saw is characterized by nearness to God.

In the old order, the former things that are passed away are characterized by separation but in the new order, it is by nearness to God.

There is no more separation.  He said, "...and there was no more sea." The sea is a symbol of separation, Isa 57:20  But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt.

"No-one lives on the sea. It is something to be crossed to arrive at one’s destination, but there is nothing permanent about it. The sea is one of seven evils John speaks of as being no more, the others being death, mourning, weeping, pain (v. 4), curse (22:3) and night (22:5)."Morris, L. (1987). Revelation: an introduction and commentary (Vol. 20, p. 232). Downers Grove, IL: InterVarsity Press.

After the New Jerusalem descends there does not seem to be any difference between Heaven and Earth.  Conclusion:  Heaven will be on the New Earth.  This is the final resting place of the saved and with the LORD HimselfRevelation 21:3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.

There is a Place of Everlasting Suffering

Just as sure as Heaven is a real, definite place, a place of  everlasting nearness to God; there is a an everlasting place of separation from heaven, Revelation 21:8  But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

In Isaiah 66:22 we are given an awful description of this lake of fire and in this description we see this is an eternal suffering, For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain. Isa 66:23  And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD. Isa 66:24  And they shall go forth, and look upon the carcases of the men that have transgressed against me: for their worm shall not die, neither shall their fire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorring unto all flesh.

Where is this Lake of Fire?  I don't know! It will not be in the New Heaven and New Earth.  When the Holy City comes down to the New Earth then Heaven becomes the New Earth.  I believe Heaven and the New Earth are one and the same.  All of the saved are there with the LORD.  The only people not there are those consigned to the Lake of Fire.  You see their terrible description given in Isaiah 66:22ff.

The people who reject Christ will be a forgotten people, Rev 21:4  And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. The unsaved will carry no significance into eternity, Isa 65:17  For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.

When God gave the final things in the Word of God in Revelation 21& 22, He gave the Final Call for man to be saved and every LORD's Day in the Church that invitation is repeatedRev 22:16  I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star. Rev 22:17  And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.

Revelation 21:1-4

June 4, 2017

Pastor/Teacher Roger Redmond

Heaven is the hope of mankind.  All people in their heart of hearts have this hope.  It is a real hope or a false hope.  The True Hope is Christ; the false hope is counterfeit. Rom 15:13 Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost. The assurance of heaven is from believing the Gospel of Christ, For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. Romans 1:16-17. The Gospel is the account, the story, the record of how God has provided salvation for you.  1Jn 5:11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. From God's side,  all that needs to be done for you to be saved has been done by God. That is why that verse says, "...God hath given to us eternal life. From your side you are to believe on Christ for Eternal Life, He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. 1 John 5:10. Salvation is knowing you are saved, Eph 1:13  In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

When people die and enter eternity, we speak of the saved going to heaven.  The bible tells us the saved go to be with Christ, 2Co 5:6 - 8 Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. Php 1:21  For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. Php 1:23  For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better: All of the saved, who have died, are with Christ now.  and that evidently is the third heaven where Paul was caught up too, 2 Cor. 12:1-4,  i.e. 2Co 12:4  How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter. (we will look at the doctrine of paradise later).  But this is not the New Heaven and the New Earth of Rev. 21:1. And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. We are still living in the first, therefore,  the New Heaven and New Earth is yet future.

The New Heaven and the New Earth is the Eternal Abode for the Saved of all Mankind:

Our eternal dwelling place for eternity going forward from Revelation 21

Rev 21:1 -2 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

Before that point in time, many eternal events take place.  And each is of significances to us.

When the New Millennium was ushered in at midnight,12/31/1999, in Sydney Australia, that celebration was designed to out- do all others.  The dazzling display of fireworks over Sydney Harbor is amazing ( I viewed it on youtube).   Something that made their celebration different is from the middle of those exploding fireworks, toward the end of the display, came forth the word "Eternity".  That word penetrates our heart because we are eternal beings.  "Eternity" is a sermon in that one word.  You could take the word "Eternity and write it over Revelation 21 and 22.

Eternity is a sobering Word The question is not will I be in eternity but rather where will I spend eternity.  As an eternal being, I am a part of eternity now. From the cradle to the grave, we are a people that will live somewhere forever. Where will you spend eternity?

Let us see the Inside of the New Heaven and The New Earth, The Eternal Abode of the Saved

Starting with Genesis 1:1, the beginning of the written word of God, until Revelation 22:21 the end of the written Word of God; you find the infallible Word of God.  Any writing claiming His inspiration beyond this cannon of scripture is false.

First,  you find the passing away of the first heaven and the first earth, ".....for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away;...." Rev. 21:1b. See also Hebrews 1:10-12( a quotation from Psa. 102:25-27).  2 Peter 3:10-13  But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

Second, you find some things not there.  You may say it is the place of "no mores".  (1). No more seas, oceans were left over from the flood - water separates - a place of no separation.  (2).  No more tears -all hurt will be removed.(3).  No more death, (4).  No more sorrow, (5).  No more crying, (6).  No more pain, (7).  No more curse, (8). No night, No locks.  All the former things will be passed away.

You could say there will be no hospitals, no funerals homes, no abortion clinics, no bankruptcy courts, no treatment centers, no porn, no cancer, no talk shows, no missing children, no hurt feelings, no injustice, no emptiness, no child abuse, no heartaches. no pain.  But there is one thing we have now that will not pass away and that is His Word. Luk 21:33  Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.

Third, What do you find in the New Heaven and the New Earth?  A city prepared, Revelation 21 :2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. I don't think this city is synonymous with heaven for it came down from God out of heaven.  The New Jerusalem is a placed prepared.  It is the place promised in John 14:2,3  In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

Joh 14:3  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. It is the City Abraham was looking for, Heb 11:10  For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God. Heb 11:16  But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.

If you die today you will either go to heaven or to hell.  The unsaved go to hell.  Hell is located in the center of the earth.

We will give a brief overview of what happens to the saved from death to the N.H. and N. E.  1.   Go to be with Christ.  And I believe receive a temporary body.  2. Will go to the JSOC. 3. Will return with Him, Rev. 20:1-4.   4.  Will rule and reign with Him 1,000 years, 2 Timothy 2:11-13.  5.  Will be with Christ at the G.W.T.J.  6.  Will be with Him in the New Heaven and the New Earth.

At Christ death on the Cross, He went to Paradise, Ephesians 4:8-10. At that time Paradise was in the center of the earth t He took the saved from Abraham's bosom, Luke 16:19ff  to Paradise on high, 2Co 12:4  How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter. The present location of all the saved.

In Revelation 21:-22:5, Paradise will be in the New Jerusalem, in The New Heaven and the New Earth, will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.  Rev 2:7  He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.

He is preparing a place for you - the question to be answered - are you preparing for Him?  Will you be in the  New Heaven and the New Earth?

Where is the Lake of Fire?  It is not on this earth and it will not be in the new heaven and the new earth!  Rev 20:14  And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death2Th 1:8  In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: 2Th 1:9  Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;

It could be on a star somewhere, Jude 13.

Amos 4:1-12

May 28, 2017

Pastor/Teacher Roger Redmond

Five times in these first twelve verses Israel's problem in identified, "...yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the LORD." They were a people who honored God with their lips but their heart was not with Him. It is a reoccurring problem with the nation of Israel, Isaiah 1: 2ff. Jesus warned us with similar words, Joh 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.  Joh 5:40  And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.

Israel as a Nation had everything but the Person of Christ:

They did not believe God

Rom 9:1-4 i.e. v.4 Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises; Did they have an advantage? Yes, Rom 3:2  Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God.

"oracles of God." is what God has to say - the sayings of God, the Word of God.

But the indictment is they did not believe on Christ.  The exact words of Christ: John 5:40  And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.

"the meaning here is, that they imagined, by having these writings in their hands, and by their reading them, and hearing them expounded every sabbath day, they should obtain and inherit everlasting life: hence they call (r) the law eternal life, and say by the reading of it would gain eternal life." From Gill on  e -Sword

They lived in a self-imposed vacuum of unbelief

People choose to live in a self-imposed unawareness.  They are willfully uninformed about the Gospel of Christ. Here is what Paul said, Rom 10:1-4  Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth. 1Co 1:18  For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

Calluses are made up of Scar Tissue

While growing up and working on a farm you did much manual work.  My first experience in hauling hay was not with bales of hay but rather with a pitchfork.  Hay was raked in piles and loaded on the hay wagon with a pitchfork.  In using the tools made for the hands you developed calluses.  My Dad's hands were hard with callous from years of hard work.  Calluses on your hands from hard work is a good thing but my friend calluses on your heart, calluses of the mind, of the soul is not a good thing.

Ephesians 4:17 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, 4:18 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:  Eph 4:19  Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.

You can be unenlightened but it is by your choice

Paul used the word "ignorant" and here is the definition: " IG'NORANTadjective [Latin ignorans.] Destitute of knowledge; uninstructed or uninformed; untaught; unenlightened. " You can be ignorant by ignoring the LORD, by ignoring the Holy Spirit, by ignoring Preaching.   By ignoring the spiritual opportunities God has given you, by ignoring the Word of God

"Ignorance that is in them" -1. lack of knowledge, ignorance. a. esp. of divine things b. of moral blindness. copied from Thayers

"Blindness of the Heart"- the covering with a callus, dulled perception, the mind has been blunted, persistence in sin.

"Who being past feelingb. to become callous, insensible to pain, apathetic - copied from Thayers

All three is the result from a willful choice to turn away from the Word of God.

1Ti 4:1  Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;  1Ti 4:2  Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;

Their conscience was not seared because they spoke lies; they spoke lies because their consciences were seared. When you willfully ignore the Word of God you have departed from the faith.

"seared with a hot iron;" in a medical sense means to cauterize.  It builds up scar tissue.  The word "hardness" is the scar tissue of the soul. Rom 2:5  But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;

To continue to willfully neglect the Word of God (to know what God has said), to refuse to walk in faith, will lead a Christian to the hardness of heart.  You are building up scar tissue of the soul. Pro_29:1  He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.

hardeneth his neck means rejection of authority.  Carries the same meaning as "hardness of heart".  When you refuse to hear the LORD you are rejecting His authority.

The LORD said to Israel Return to me, Hosea 14:1-6. and the Church is Warned about leaving Their first Love

The church is warned in the Book of Revelation about the preeminence of Christ, Rev 2:4  Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.

Rev 2:5  Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent. Rev 3:15  I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.

Rev 3:16  So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. Rev 3:17  Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: Rev 3:18  I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.

The LORD is speaking of the nakedness, that comes from the life not lived by faith, as seen at the Judgment Seat of Christ (JSOC).  1 Cor. 3:13-15,  Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.  If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

Rev, 19:7-8. Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.

I believe the "righteousness of saints is the gold produced in your life by following Christ,  1  Peter 1:4-8  To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: The question that begs to be answered: what is reserved in heaven for you?   No question,  but that it is your Inheritance.

2Ti 2:12  If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us: 2Ti 2:13  If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself. At the time of salvation, you become an heir of God.  An heir of God is an unconditional inheritance.  But being a joint heir with Christ has conditions.  "If we suffer, we shall also reign with him:" No pain - no gain

Faithful (πιστὸς). True to his own nature, righteous character, and requirements, according to which he cannot accept as faithful one who has proved untrue to him. To do this would be to deny himself.

Vincent, M. R. (1887). Word studies in the New Testament (Vol. 4, p. 300). New York: Charles Scribner’s Sons.

for he cannot disown himself. Nevertheless, these words are not a charter for sin and apostasy, but rather a consolation for a frightened conscience (as Jeremias points out). The main thrust of this statement, however, may be that God’s faithfulness implies that he cannot acknowledge those who disown him

Guthrie, D. (1990). Pastoral Epistles: An Introduction and Commentary (Vol. 14, p. 163). Downers Grove, IL: InterVarsity Press.

"2 Timothy 2:11-13.  Verse 13 points out the danger of unbelief as a saved person.    If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.

"If we believe not.."  ἀπιστέω apisteō - Thayer Definition: 1) to betray a trust, be unfaithful

"If we believe not" (εἰ ἀπιστοῦμεν). Better, are faithless or untrue to him. Comp. Rom. 3:3. In Pastorals only here.

"Faithful" (πιστὸς).

The conclusion to what is being taught:  Christ is faithful to His character and will hold the unfaithful accountable in the same manner as He rewards the faithful.  He cannot deny Himself." Copied from Roger Redmond, "Following Christ is not Automatic"

Romans 4:21-25. Everything done for Christ that will stand the test at the JSOC is done by faith.  Fai.th was imputed to Abraham for righteousness. Rom 4:21  And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform. Rom 4:22  And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness. Righteousness is imputed to us, Romans 4:23Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him; Rom 4:24  But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; Man is saved by grace through faith, Eph. 2:8. And the righteous acts of the saints is by faith.  Shall not the just live by faith?  I believe the "righteousness of saints is the gold produced in your life by following Christ.

The Pretense of Spiritual Riches Makes The LORD Sick

Revelation 3:15-17

Their true condition was of spirituality poverty. They prided themselves on spiritual riches but they were bankrupt spirituality.  The only reason one would say " I am rich and have need of nothing" is because you are self- righteous.  There is no one poorer than the one who is rich in self-righteous.  The word "thou" is very emphatic.  The word miserable means, the one to pitied."Mayest be clothed": means to clothe yourself

The assumption of spiritual riches, where none exist, hardens the heart and makes the LORD sick. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. Rev. 3:16. Living in pretense hinders and dulls the mind, Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: Rev. 3:17. But yet, He comes to us with compassionate advice,  "I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire,....." Rev. 3:18

Anyone who hears His counsel discovers they are loved by Him and accepts correction from Him.  As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent. Rev. 3:19
