Bible Study 1 Timothy

One of the purposes of the Pastoral Epistles is to teach Christian living in response to the Gospel

1:1 Paul is the writer of this book and his authority is established in verse one. Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Saviour, and Lord Jesus Christ, which is our hope; His commission is from the LORD, Acts 26:12 -19,  i.e. 26:18  To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.

Lest you think that satan does not have power: read again verse 28 "...from the power of satan...." when you put that with the other scripture , 2 Cor. 4:3-4, But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. You see how needy, blind and helpless is our condition without the preaching of the gospel.

Paul is sent by God to the Gentiles to preach the message of Christ, 26:18  To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me. God used Paul to write much of the N.T.  Therefore,  we should spend much time in reading Romans, 1&2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Colossians, Philippians, 1&2 Thessalonians , 1&2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon, Hebrews.  These books teach much about the church age, the age in which we are now living.  Teaching about the basic bible doctrine, the gospel, our service,  church administration, conduct, biblical answers to our questions.

Christ is our hope because He is the Gift of God, John 3:16 and Romans 6:23. The preaching and teaching of the Gospel of Christ that is God 's power, Romans 1:16 &17 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

We are forgiven because our sin was judged in Him,  Our sin was placed on Him, 2 Cor. 5:21, For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. Sin is not forgiven it is paid for by Christ in order that we be forgiven, Col. 2:13-14  And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;  Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

1:2  Unto Timothy, my own son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord.  Evidently Timothy had believed in Christ for eternal life and had become a follower of Christ in the preaching and teaching of the Gospel by Paul, Acts, 16:1 and 1 Cor.4:14-17.

It glorifies the Father to bear fruit for Christ, Joh 15:8  Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.  That fruit remains and no doubt that fruit is someone coming to Christ through you as a follower of Christ.

You should desire fruit for your life. I would want to say, in heaven , as I look around, here is fruit from my life: Joh 15:8  "..... that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples

1. Fruit because I believe on Christ, John 15:2  Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.

2. Fruit because I took up my cross and followed Him, John 21:22 Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me.

3. Fruit because I gave, Psalm 126:5 they that sow in tears shall reap in joy.

4. Fruit because I prayed, Psalm 126:6 He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.

5. Fruit because I presented my body a living sacrifice, Romans 12:1-2

6. Fruit because I gave someone the gospel of Christ, 1 Cor. 1:18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

7. Fruit because I was faithful to Him! Gal_6:9  And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

As you look back over the passing of your life can you see fruit for your life?  I challenge you by the Word of God that you look to have fruit in the life you are now living, Gal. 2:20

1Ti 1:3  As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine,

He was to remain as the overseer of the Church at Ephesians.  The Overseer of the Church is called angels in Revelation 1:20 The mystery of the seven stars which thou sawest in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches: and the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches.

"That it cannot mean literally an angel, as referring to a heavenly being, for no one can suppose that such a being presided over these churches." copied from Barnes on e sword.

We see from this book that God called  and commission Paul; who stated that he and Timothy shared the same common faith .  Paul said,  my son Timothy in the faith (1:2). The Word plainly states that we stand in His stead, ambassadors for Him.  He gave Pastors to the Church and He placed you in the body of Christ. Therefore, you are to stand for the gospel as given in the Word of God to bear fruit for Him.

The charge is " charge some that they teach no other doctrine, False teaching has always been a problem in the Church.  He compares false teaching to "fables" = fairy tales.  Any message other than the message of Christ is a tale.

"The Finger of God" | Print |  E-mail

June 12, 2016

Four times the scripture speaks of "The Finger of God":

1. Exo_8:19  Then the magicians said unto Pharaoh, This is the finger of God: and Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had said.

2. Exo_31:18  And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him upon mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God.

3. Deu_9:10  And the LORD delivered unto me two tables of stone written with the finger of God; and on them was written according to all the words, which the LORD spake with you in the mount out of the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly.

4. Luk_11:20  But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you.  (Christ is saying this is His finger who wrote the ten commandments)

The "Finger of God" indicates God at Work, The Power of God.

Up till now the magicians had been able to duplicate the miracles but now  they had to recognize

as being from the LORD.  Most likely they had view Moses and Aaron as being one like them.  It is evident they knew their power was not from God.  However, now they stood face to face with Moses and Aaron being sent by God.

This is to be a reminder to us that there are many false prophets  For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.  Matthew 24:24. 1Jn 2:18  Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.

Bogus ministries may rely on deception to convince the unsuspecting.  We are never told; to look at the power or ability of one, to prove God's Word. They may seem to work great miracles and do great things but those are not measuring sticks.  Remember God's Word stands on its own merit; it is the Word of God.  The scripture cannot be broken.  Mat_22:29  Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God. Joh_10:35........ and the scripture cannot be broken;

How can you know? 2 John 1:9-10. Matthew 7:21-23

It is the Bible Doctrine of the Power, Purpose and Plan of God that you must believe.  Bible Doctrine is what the Word of God has to say about any subject. 2 Timothy 3:8-17.

1.  The Plan and Purpose of the Word of God cannot be replaced. It is forever settled in heaven.  It will accomplish and prosper where He sends it, Isa 55:11  So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

Here is a part of an email from one of our missionaries:" Last evening we sat in a house explaining salvation over and over to hungry souls. People that asked us not to leave. There are people with the same hunger all over this country.

It is the Word of God that has Power, Romans 1:16. God said, " whom shall I send and who will go for us?"

2.  The Power of The blood of Christ, the Truth of the Cross, cannot be replicate. Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins and it is the Blood of Christ, Heb 9:12  Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. Rev 1:5  And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,

3.  The Power of an endless life cannot be reproduce. From the first promise of Christ in Genesis 3:15 there has been the war waged by satan to destroy Christ.    And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

The Prophecy of Christ and the Cross:

"Let it is of profound importance. The “woman” here typifies Israel — the woman from whom the promised Seed came — the woman of Revelation 12. The children of Israel being the appointed channel through which the Messiah was to come, became the object of Satan’s continued enmity and assault. How marvelously this prediction has already been fulfilled all students of Scripture know full well. The “famines” mentioned in Genesis were the first efforts of the enemy to destroy the fathers of the chosen race. The edict of Pharaoh to destroy all the male children; the Egyptian attack at the Red Sea; the assaults of the Canaanites when in the land; the plot of Haman, are all so many examples of this enmity between Satan and “the woman,” while the continued persecution of the Jew by the Gentiles and the yet future opposition by the Beast witness to the same truth. From A.W. Pink Gleanings in Genesis

Heb. 7:16  Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life.

Rev 1:18  I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

He is a living Saviour who died for all mankind; that you might experience Him in your life regardless of the past.  Illustration:  Hunting at night and the old house with light streaming from every crack out into the dark night.....  Sin may shoot us full of holes and make cracks is our life but where sin abounds grace does much more abound. The cracks is our life only becomes a conduit for the light of Christ to shine out into a dark world, 2Co 4:6  For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. 2Co 4:7  But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.

About ten (10) years ago, in an attempt to illustrate the affect of this house, with the light shining through the cracks; I went to Hobby Lobby looking for an old looking vase.  I found two rustic, earthen type vases and they were just what I needed.  Let me say they were not cheap.  I took a hammer and nail and very carefully finding crevices in the vase I work the nail through creating a hole a sometimes a wider crack.  I did this without breaking the vase.  Praise the LORD!  For years I have use this illustration to show the Power of Christ to forgive.  I put a battery powered light in the vase and cover the top and light shines through the cracks and holes.  In the other vase there are no cracks and therefore no light can shine.

(Just yesterday, my wife called out to me to look at the T.V. and there was John Hagee using this illustration except he was using a picture of the two vases) .  I can assure you when I did this I had never seen anyone use this illustration.  The house I saw as a young boy was more than 60 years ago.  And I used the house as an illustration more the 40 years ago.

Let me go on with the "Finger of God".

5Jesus wrote twice in the dirt with His finger, John 8:1-12. What did He write?  I don't know!  But let us look at the story.

A.  They were trying to catch Jesus in violation of the law.  Know that Jesus was forgiving and full of compassion, He would say forgive her and then they would have Him for the law said they must be stoned , 8:5-6 .

B. By Him writing in the dirt they should have understood He was saying .  I am the One who wrote the Ten Commandments with my finger.  They were trying to trick/test the one who gave the law.

C.  He wrote twice in the dirt with His Finger, He twice wrote the law.  To oppose Him is to oppose the law of Moses. Jas_4:12  There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?

You know five words from Christ got her in: "...Neither do I condemn thee..." Jesus said, "All power is given to me in heaven and earth".  How could He forgive her? How could He say, "you are forgiven?  Because in just a short time He was to go to the cross a die for her.

How did He get you in?  What He went to do for this woman and for all the world He has already done for you!  1Pe_2:24  Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. He has already died and paid your sin debt.

Romans 7:24 - 8:12

Romans is a book about salvation.  Paul describes himself as needing deliverance and found such in Christ.  To be in Christ is a truth to be understood.  Understanding is found in 156 verses in the bible.  I will list five (five ) of these references:

Pro._4:5  Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. Pro_4:7  Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get  understanding.

Pro_8:14  Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I have strength.

Pro_19:8  He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul: he that keepeth understanding shall find good.

1Jn_5:20  And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

He wants you to know/understand you are in Christ and He put you there in His grace.  None of us deserve so great a salvation!  We are not in Christ because of our faith, in fact we are not in Christ by anything we have done or have not done,  but because of His grace.  Every one of us is included in the great work of Christ and we rest our faith in the person of that work, Christ.  Does not the bible say He is the alpha and the omega of our faith,  Rev_22:13  I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. When you try to go beyond Christ you get into trouble, He is the beginning and ending, the first and the last and everything in between is built upon Him.

It is my prayer that every person's faith will find it's their resting place in Christ.

We live in a Body of death, Romans 7:24.  Paul said he was a wretched man.  He had a body of death to be delivered from; therefore we have the same body of death from which to be delivered.

That deliverance is not from within but from other source.  That source is God through Christ, 7:25

How can a person be free from the law .The law is more than the Mosaic law.  Romans 6:14, For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.   To be under the law is to be under the obligation to fulfill the law of God as a rule of duty, as a condition of Salvation.  If you are under the law you are under the curse.  See Galati on 3:10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.. Therefore no man is free from sin for no one can perfectly keep the law of God.  If you rest your faith upon your conformity to the law you are condemned. But we are not under the law but under grace.

"In Christ" is Paul's favorite phrase. Romans 8:1. Knowing you are in Christ is a truth you need to see.  It is hard to see/grasp.  Ask the LORD to help you see/understand!  James 1:5. If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. I want to give you a little illustration and it is about the Ark.  You know the story about Noah, if not you need to come to Sunday School.  So let me pick up the story in Genesis 7:1.  The Ark had been completed; it was now time for the rain to start, by the way it had never rained on the earth until now.  And the LORD said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation. Now he Ark was built a certain way, Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch. The Word "pitch" is the same word used for atonement in other places. Between those in the Ark and the waters of judgment on the outside is the gopher wood and the pitch.  Now go to Genesis 7:16. Once God shut them in they were safe/saved from the judgment of His wrath.  If you go to Genesis 8:1 you find these words, "And God Remembered Noah...." Not that He had forgotten them; He knew they were safe.  What is meant for Noah and all in the Ark is meant for us in Christ.  God has included you in all that Christ did and accomplished, 1 Cor. 1:30. The truth of the gospel that man must understand is this: he is saved in Christ!.

Noah built the Ark according to God's instruction; but God prepared the body for Christ, Heb. 10:5. And when that body died,  on the cross, with all sins on Him,  God was including you in that death.  He is asking you to believe Him in what He did for you and in all of His Word.  He is asking you to believe that Christ is your Saviour!  1 John 5:11&12  And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.   He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. Remember it is God who gave you His Son, John 3:16. Look back to more than two thousand years ago, to that day He cried, "It is Finished" , and know that He died for you and rest you faith in Him.

Rom 8:1  There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. All that is meant for Noah to be "in the ark" the matter of safety, security, protection , the way to another world is pictured for us to be "in Christ".   And so much more do we have in Christ than the Ark would ever picture.  But this one point I want you to see:  God has put you in His Son and "in Christ" you are safe from all condemnation, "There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus,..." It is important to understand that who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. is not preceded by the words "if you walk..."  Rather it is a statement of fact about the new life you have in Christ and Christ in you!  Consider 1 John 3:9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. We all know that we sin daily and the LORD is aware of this fact.  He tells us in His word, 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1Jn 1:10  If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. 1Jn 2:1  My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: 1 Jn 2:2  And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

But what you are seeing here is within the saved is two natures: the old man, the first Adam,  Romans 5:12 and the new man, "Christ in you.." Col_3:10  And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him: This new man is the seed that does not sin referred to  in 1 John 3:9. Hence the battle you face that wars within and Paul deals with that in Romans 6 and 7 and gives the victory that he finds  Romans 7:24-25.

In Romans 8,  Paul gives the victory/benefits we have by being " in Christ" you see the new man, the new life, Christ in you being shared. Read Romans 8:1-12.

What about the old man?  Here you see the double edged sword of the Word of God, Hebrews 4:12. The word of God says, we are to put him (old man) to death, Col. 3:5-10. So in comes 1 John 1:9-2:2, as to how we deal in part with the old man and 2 Cor. 5:10,( Judgment Seat of Christ).

You say, I understand all that about  being in Christ and the judgment seat of Christ.  I don't think most of the saved really understand.   If the Church understood there would be a great revival.

1. The Church would no longer be take it or leave it attitude or a  convenient mind set. Heb 5:12  For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.

2. There would be no more dragging around telling the LORD, I will worship you when it can be worked in.   Heb 13:15  By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.

3. There would be no more withholding our gifts from the LORD.  Luk 6:38  Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

4. There would be no turning a deaf ear to the will of God regarding the Church.  Heb 12:25  See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven:

5. There would be no more of leaving everything to "Nobody".  You know the story of Everybody, Somebody,  Anybody.  Rev 22:12  And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.

Dealing with the Old Man.

Romans 7:1.  Paul used the analogy of marriage.  If the husband be dead the wife is free from the law, Romans 7:2-3.

The law is dead so therefore I am loosed from the demands of the law.  How did the law died in me , Romans 7:4 . So by the New Birth you are dead to the law.

Romans 7:5 "For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death, "the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death". before the New Birth.  See Romans 8:9.    But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. Motions of sins =  passions.  "by the law"= the knowledge of sin.  These desires did work in our body, "to bring forth fruit unto death , James 1:15. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

And  Romans 7:6 says we are delivered from the law.  That being dead wherein we were held. We were without hope, in bondage, to the motions of sin, we were held by the deadness of our spirit, guilt and weight of sin and the power of sin, John 3:6. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit..

Now in our deliverance we should serve in newness of spirit, 1 Cor. 6:20For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's., not in oldness of the letter.  Does not Hebrews 10:19-20 tell us a new and living way and that way is Christ. Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, Heb 10:20  By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;

SPIRITUALITY or CARNALITY | Print |  E-mail

May 15, 2016 P.M.

First of all let us consider the definitions:

1.  Carnality :

"According to the Greek dictionary, it means to have the nature and characteristics of the flesh (or more simply, it means “fleshly”). What, then , is the flesh? Sometimes it refers to the whole material part of man (1 Corinthians 15:39; Hebrews 5:7), and based on this meaning, carnal sometimes relates to material things like money (Romans 15:27) or to the opposite of our weapons of spiritual warfare (2 Corinthians 10:4). But the word flesh also has a metaphorical sense when it refers to our disposition to sin and to oppose or omit God in our lives. The flesh is characterized by works that include lusts and passions (Galatians 5:19-24; I John 2:16); it can enslave (Romans 7:25); and in it is nothing good (Romans 7:18). Based on this meaning of the word flesh, to be carnal means to be characterized by things that belong to the unsaved life (Ephesians 2:3)".

So Great Salvation, Charles Ryrie, Victor Books, 1989, pp. 59-60.

Romans 15:27  It hath pleased them verily; and their debtors they are. For if the Gentiles have been made partakers of their spiritual things, their duty is also to minister unto them in carnal things.

2 Cor. 10:3&4 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:

(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)

Gal 5:19  Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

Gal 5:20  Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,

Gal 5:21  Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Gal 5:22  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

Gal 5:23  Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

Gal 5:24  And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

1Jn 2:16  For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

Rom 7:25  I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin. Rom 7:25  I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.

Rom 7:18  For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.

Carnality is  condition of the mind in which the believer functions under  the controlling influence of the flesh.  By flesh, we mean the Old Sin Nature, we mean the fallen estate of all human beings after the fall of Adam.

2.  Spirituality:  People who are spiritual never consider themselves as such.

By definition, spirituality is a condition of  the  mind in which the believer functions under the controlling influence of God the Holy Spirit.  By condition/place we mean it is a state of being. It is not an emotion. It is not a feeling. That is not to say you cannot have feelings while you are spiritual. You may have  feelings of happiness, joy, or even sadness and disappointment. But these feelings are not spirituality;  you cannot feel spiritual as a proof of such. It is a state of being in which you operate your life.  As such, you are able to be influenced by the Holy Spirit. When you are spiritual, you are  sensitive to the guidance of the  Holy Spirit being  taught the Word of God.   And you are empowered to carry out your commitment to discipleship.  It is a provision set forth by God.  Christ lived as such while here on earth.

The saved have a choice between Spirituality and Carnality .

The unsaved have no choice but to live in carnality.  All, of mankind, are born into sin, Ephesians 2:1-7, i.e. verses 2,3 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:

Eph 2:3  Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

That is why Jesus said to Nicodemus, Joh 3:7  Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

And after being born again you have a choice between carnality or spirituality.  You have the choice between two ways to live in.  Two ways in which to operate you life.  You can live under the influence of the flesh or the influence of the Holy Spirit.

Some things to remember:  There are no  in betweens you are either one or the other.  In others words you cannot be part of one and then part of the other.

That is the problem facing church now trying to serve  the LORD while living in carnality, Romans 8: 1-7. You have a choice in which to live but it is not a half hearted choice.  To be a disciple of Christ is not an half hearted choice.  Rom 8:5  For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. When you try to serve the LORD with the mind of the flesh you do fleshly things which is against the Spirit.

It is very wrong and dangerous not to hearken unto the LORD.  You cannot pass His word off as if it really does not matter.  This is where the Body of Christ, as the Church, is today when discipleship is ignored and carnality is the choice of life.  There is a very interesting story found in 2 Kings 22: I will pick up the story in verse 13, Go ye, enquire of the LORD for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found: for great is the wrath of the LORD that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not hearkened unto the words of this book, to do according unto all that which is written concerning us.  (Read 2 Kings 22:1-20). (and by the way if you can't pronounce some of the names don't worry no one will know).

Some things to always remember in our daily life.

1. There is always the Word of God, 2 Kings 22:8  And Hilkiah the high priest said unto Shaphan the scribe, I have found the book of the law in the house of the LORD. And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, and he read it.

2. The Bible contains the blue print for all that is happening and all that will ever happen.  Therefore, it should be read, 2 Kings 22:9-11.  As it impacted the King so it will impact who ever will hear, he that hath ears to hear let him hear. The Book  had been lost, misplaced but certainly not read, Duet. 31:24-30.  When the hearing of the Word of God is lost then the life (discipleship, spirituality) is lost.  Today, the Bible lays on the table unopened, bible study unattended and our lives cluttered and contaminated with carnality.

3. If the Word of God is received it will change your life, 2 Kings 22:11-13.

4. The LORD evaluates our obedience to Him: to His Word, to His Spirit (our spirit to His Spirit).  You can be wrong in your spirit, see 1 Cor. 6:20 .  The LORD blessing are withheld if we are wrong in our spirit.  Considered how the LORD blest Josiah, the King, for hearing His Word:  2 Kings 22:18-20.

You say does it matter how I have lived as one who is saved?  Does it matter what choice I have made?  So what if I have not followed the LORD does it really matter?  May I say, " Yes it matters", Jeremiah, 5:21-25 i.e. 25 Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have withholden  good things from you.

The principle of blessing through obedience to the Word of God id found throughout the Bible.  Does He not tell us that what happened to Israel is for our learning and instruction and warning!  Yes!  See Romans 15:4, 1Co_10:11  Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.

Consider the warning and example given in, Duet. 28:45-47.
